New Research to Fast Track Medical Breakthroughs

A 21st century method for diagnosing bipolar disorder

Congratulations to Dr Steven Miller of Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc) on being awarded a $100K grant from a highly competitive field in the first round of funding from the Victorian Medical Research Acceleration Fund.

Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and major depressive disorders are commonly misdiagnosed with enormous personal, social and economic costs.

MAPrc’s Dr Steven Miller and Dr Phillip Law are conducting collaborative clinical, technical and user-interface research with Dr Kirsten Ellis of Monash Faculty of Information Technology to accelerate translation of an online visual test to reduce misdiagnosis of bipolar disorder. An accurate diagnosis of mental illness symptoms will improve the personal lives of affected individuals and reduce societal and economic costs. http://www.maprc.org.au/dr-steven-miller
