Professor Paul Fitzgerald discusses TMS treatment for depression on 4BC

Professor Paul Fitzgerald recently discussed using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) to treat depression on 4BC. You can hear the interview here.
TMS is a procedure that involves the focused application of a magnetic field to regions of the brain to stimulate activity in nerve cells. A significant proportion of patients with depression, usually about one third, fail to respond to widely used treatments which include various medications and a number of types of psychotherapy. TMS is proving to be a helpful and highly promising new treatment approach for these patients and for other patients who cannot tolerate medications or other standard treatment approaches.
